Viva Mambo will now be taking a break over the summer - we're back in September... watch this space for details...
VIVA MAMBO's hot recommendations:
Salsa & Mambo:
1. "El Plato Roto" - Tito Puente - Album: Salsa Legende
There are so many Tito Puente albums to choose from (he released almost 120!) but we feel this track is a must - not often heard & very under-rated... you should also check out his album "Dance Mania Vol.1" - an essential classic...
2. "Avisale
A Mi Contrario" - Tito Rodriguez - Album: El Inolvidable
Again - too many albums to choose from... but this track is a classic...
3. "Cuban Fantasy" - Machito - Album: At The Crescendo (Live)
The "Daddy" of the original "Big 3" and perhaps his most well known dance floor hit... when he brings in the horns and those Saxophones start blaring Machito is hard to beat!
4. "El Jibarito" - El Gran Combo - Album: Los Nenes Sicodelicos
A classic - guaranteed to move your feet... never fails!
5. "El Niche" - Ismael Rivera Y Sus Cahimbos - Album: Traigo De Todo
With so many great tracks on this album it's hard to pick just one... we've chosen "El Niche" as it's a current dance floor favourite! But be sure to check out "El Nazareno" and "Que Te Pasa A Ti" as well...
Cha Cha Cha:
1. "Pa' Huele" - Eddie Palmieri - Album: A Man and His Music
What a tune..! A huge Viva Mambo favourite at the moment
- classic Eddie Palmieri... it just builds and builds..!
2. "El Cayuco" - Tito Puente - Album: Dance Mania Vol.1
A Tito Puente classic that has had more than it's fair share of air time over the years - with god reason!
3. "Payaso" - La Muralla - Album: NYC Salsa Vol.2
Classic 1970's New York sound this one... and what a gem! Sadly La Muralla only recorded one album ("Avisale")...
4. "Cha Cha Gabriel" - Jimmy Bosch - Album: Soneando Trombone
Taken from Jimmy Bosch's 1998 album that had several big dance floor hits this is a great Cha Cha with fantastic piano & trombone work... and another slow burner!
5. "Pa' Gozar" - Spanish Harlem Orchestra - Album: Un Gran Dia En El Barrio
Taken from the 2002 smash hit album from Spanish Harlem Orchestra this one is always a hit on the dance floor...
